The Front Squat

Download video

Once you get that perfect rack position, you're going to need more weight.  Check out the Wright Rubber Bumper Plate Set in the Again Faster Equipment Store.

I thought "flexibility" was my problem. Your excellent video quickly shot that out of the water, as I went out to my garage, grabbed a 15lb bar, and achieved a near-perfect rack position, noticing the DISCOMFORT of the bar against my windpipe. Your videos are nothing short of outstanding, and I eagerly await each new entry. I loved the muscle-up video, and have achieved several of the "slight arm bend kipping" muscle-ups. My next progression will be full arm extension, then after that I will go for strict MUps with NO Kip. Thanks Jon, your website is AWESOME!

Great video Jon. Not only will this help me but it will really help our clients.

Thanks again.

Really good video mate. I actually had a crew of my semi private clients come into the office to watch it and then we went out and did it.

Sometimes you just need that third party validation.

Cheers bro,

Huey,

Consider it done. You'll see it in approximately two weeks.

Jon

Jon, I'm impressed with the response. Can't wait!

New to CF. Loving it. I work out in a Globo gym and although quite familiar with many exposive lifts, I do suffer technique drift. For things I have never done (correctly) before like front squat, you have been a saviour. My improvement thanks you.

I'm just starting on the front squat and stumbled across this video. Amazing amount of detail, just the type of instruction I was looking for. I can't wait to look at your other videos. Keep up the great work in helping people to lift safely!

Jon,

Great video, as are the others.

I have a different issue with my front squats. I only have one-arm and can't quite get my elbow up the way a normal person would. I have to grip the bar more in the middle to help keep it on my shoulders. I'll need to get a side video one day, but I feel like I'm straight (midline) all the way through.

Could you watch this video and give me any suggestions or comments?

Front Squats

Thanks,

Michael

Michael,

Awesome work! I don't see too much happening in the way of errors; try and keep that elbow high. Given that you're working with one arm and aren't going to go overhead with that barbell, any position that facilitates a rack on the shoulders is good to go. Your stabilization looks stellar.

Best,

Jon

Jon,

Thanks I appreciate it.

I'll see about getting the elbow higher next time for sure. I guess I should've "listened" better the several times I watched the video. Since I won't be doing any Oly lifts or anything, no sense in trying to hold the bar "proper". As you stated, as long as I rack on the shoulders, I should be good.

Thanks again,

Michael

Great video really helpful... I was having trouble with the grip thinking it was flexibility but this really cleared it up. Thanks!
