Again Faster Competition Team Athlete Phillip Kniep
Phillip Kniep, co-owner and manager at CrossFit Lincoln, finished in 2nd place at the 2012 CrossFit Games North Central Regional. We caught up with Phillip and asked him a few questions as he prepares for the 2012 CrossFit Games.
AF: What was your transformation/story/how did you get into CrossFit?
PK: I was a former football player, who thought periodizing and isolating everything was the end-all and be-all for fitness. When I landed a job in Colorado as a firefighter I found out that I was not fit. At all. I began asking some of the guys I worked with what kind of fitness program they followed. They were doing "CrossFit". I tried a couple of workouts and thought they were dumb initially, primarily because they were mostly less than 15 minutes long (I was used to working out for 2 hours or more), then I tried Filthy 50 laid and I was sold. I've been CrossFitting ever since.
AF: Is there anything that you have done differently this year that you believe has helped you qualify/prepare for the Games?
PK: I've grown a beard.
AF: What are you doing in the next few weeks to prepare for the Games?
PK: I'm primarily sticking to my regular routine with strength and skill work 3x a week, three days of multiple WOD's and 2 full rest days per work. I've been working on swimming (which I don't think will be at the Games again this year) and I've been throwing a lot of strongman stuff into my WOD's (stones, logs, axle-bars, etc.)
AF: What are your programming predictions for the WODs?
PK: I have no clue. I've learned there is no way to predict what is up Dave's sleeve.
