A Human Doing

When she first started CrossFitting, Mary Beth Litsheim cleaned the gym once a week in return for a membership. A former competitive gymnast and bodybuilder, the 50-year-old was only hoping CrossFit might help her get a little better at volleyball. What she found was a new passion.

With four fully grown kids, and despite having had her L4 and L5 vertebrae fused ten years prior after injuries suffered during gymnastics, Mary Beth found immediate success. She qualified for, and went on to win, the 50-55 age division at the 2011 CrossFit Games.

In 2012, she had the honor of being the only Masters competitor to have done so well in the CrossFit Open as to warrant an invitation to compete at the Regional event in May. Amongst a field of athletes many of whom were 30 years her junior, Mary Beth placed 23rd.
