Rx Smart Gear EVO FRE Speed Jump Rope

The Rx Smart Gear EVO FRE Speed Jump Rope is built for athletes who already have double unders dialed in and want to go faster. The lightest speed rope in the EVO lineup combines a lightweight polymer handle with Rx Smart Gear's Hyper 1.3 cable for fast cycle rates, efficient movement, and competition-ready performance.

A reinforced head assembly with dual high-speed bearings creates smooth, fast rotation, while tapered handles, multiple pinch points, diamond knurling, and traction bands give you precise control without over-gripping. The result is a rope designed to disappear in your hands when speed matters.

The EVO FRE delivers much of the performance of Rx Smart Gear's premium EVO platform at a more accessible price point. Its lightweight construction and included black carry case also make it an excellent travel rope for competitions, drop-ins, and training on the road. This is an advanced speed rope and is not recommended for athletes still learning double unders.

What you need to know

The EVO FRE is a competition-focused speed rope designed for experienced athletes who already have consistent double unders. Its extremely light Hyper cable prioritizes speed and efficiency rather than the feedback typically preferred when learning double unders.

No. Rx Smart Gear recommends the Hyper cable for advanced jumpers who are already proficient at double unders. Its lightweight construction makes it extremely fast but provides less feedback than a heavier training cable. Athletes still learning double unders should consider the Rx Jump Rope 2.0 instead.

While possible, it isn't the rope we recommend for learning. The EVO FRE is intentionally fast and light, which means there is less cable feedback to help a beginner feel the rope's position. A heavier training rope generally makes developing double-under timing and rhythm easier.

No. The EVO FRE uses a fixed-length cable by design. Eliminating adjustable hardware helps prevent the cable from changing length or coming apart during a workout. Choosing the correct rope length before ordering is therefore important.

Rx Smart Gear recommends using your height plus approximately 3 feet as the maximum starting rope length. As your technique improves, a slightly shorter rope can create a more efficient rope path. When you're between lengths, favoring the shorter option is generally recommended for efficiency.

The Rx Jump Rope 2.0 is an everyday training rope with more cable feedback, making it better suited for developing and practicing double unders. The EVO FRE is a lightweight speed rope designed for proficient athletes who want faster cycle rates for competition and high-performance workouts. Many athletes can benefit from training with the Rx 2.0 and using the EVO FRE when maximum speed matters.

Both are high-performance EVO speed ropes. The EVO G2 is Rx Smart Gear's premium precision speed rope, while the EVO FRE uses lightweight polymer construction to deliver similar speed-focused performance at a more accessible price point. The FRE is also particularly well suited as a lightweight travel and competition rope.

Use the EVO FRE on smooth indoor surfaces whenever possible. Rubber gym flooring or a dedicated jump rope mat are ideal. Avoid concrete, asphalt, gravel, dirt, and other abrasive surfaces because they can rapidly wear the speed cable.

The cable is a replaceable wear item and does not mean your EVO FRE needs to be replaced. Cable life depends on training frequency, rope length, technique, and jumping surface. Replacement cables can be installed while continuing to use the same handles and bearing system.

Rx Smart Gear estimates cable life at approximately 6 months to 2 years depending on frequency of use, rope length, technique, and training surface. An excessively long rope creates more ground contact and can accelerate cable wear.

This is a competition rope.

It is built for speed and is the best rope to use once your double unders are dialed in.
